Coolant manifolds and why flow distribution is crucial on EV platforms
In this chapter, we focus on the role of coolant manifolds and why flow distribution is crucial on EV platforms. Within a cooling architecture of an EV, one pump services many components: these components can have different duty cycles, temperature and flow limits. Our video demonstrates how a coolant manifold is essential for precise flow distribution.
Our demonstration vehicle uses a pair of manifolds to cool the power electronics circuits, which are also zoned between charging and driving modes with the use of a shut-off valve. Larger vehicles or more complex projects require a series of manifolds that work as cooling nodes with sub flow systems. This allows for centralised coolant pumping from a single high voltage pump. In the video you will see how this flow distribution is achieved via manifold and valve technology.
We offer standard and bespoke manifolds for electric vehicles
Technical Services provide a range of standard manifolds available in 3 – 6 channels. Our design team has the capabilities to configure standard manifolds to manage flow distribution with barb and orifice diameters. Using 3D and 1D technology we can also pre-configure manifolds to fit your specification. Please speak to a member of our team
